Lt. Gov. Murray to offer budget preview at MMA Annual Meeting
December 20, 2011Lt. Gov. Tim Murray will preview the administration’s fiscal 2013 state budget plan at the MMA Annual Meeting & Trade Show on Jan. 20 in Boston.
Murray will be speaking for Gov. Deval Patrick, who has a late-breaking scheduling conflict. The lieutenant governor will outline the local aid numbers contained in the budget bill that the administration is due to file on Jan. 25.
Murray will speak during the meeting’s opening session, which will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. He will be preceded by House Speaker Robert DeLeo. Representatives from the Executive Office for Administration and Finance will also be available.
Other prominent Annual Meeting speakers will be U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and Congressman Edward Markey, Navy Capt. Michael Abrashoff, State Police Col. Marian McGovern, and Boston Bruins President Cam Neely.
The MMA Annual Meeting & Trade Show, to be held Jan. 20 and 21, is a rich environment for idea exchange and problem-solving. Local leaders have numerous opportunities to discuss the challenges they face and to learn what their peers are doing to move forward in a difficult economy.
Highlights of the meeting are the 28 information-packed workshops, inspiring speakers, the trade show, and awards presentations.
The Annual Meeting will also feature business meetings specifically for mayors, councillors and aldermen, selectmen, and town managers.
Twist and Shout, who seek to evoke the atmosphere of early Beatles shows, with songs such as “All My Loving,” “She Loves You,” and “A Hard Day’s Night,” will entertain attendees on Saturday night.
The MMA Annual Meeting & Trade Show, to be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, is the largest regular gathering of municipal officials in the state. The 2011 event was attended by more than 1,100 local leaders and featured more than 225 exhibitors at the Trade Show.
This year’s Annual Meeting theme is “Recovery, Reinvestment and Renewal: Cities and Town Look Ahead.”
