A: According to the Division of Local Services, 110 cities and towns currently have separate tax rates for commercial and residential properties. Over the past 15 years, the percentage of municipalities opting for the split tax rate has remained fairly steady, ranging between 28 percent and 31 percent. The number of communities with split tax rates in fiscal 2003 reached a low for the 15-year period of 99, but increased to 110 three years later.
